Dry Stone Walling
We offer dry stone walling across the county of Somerset and surrounding areas. Dry Stone Walling is an ancient craft often used to create boundaries where stone is in abundance. The nature of how different stones are formed results in a variety of styles across regions. These styles share core principles of dry stone walling but will be utilised in different ways to benefit the local stone. Somerset boasts a diverse geology with each stone having its own characteristics. The predominant stone locally is Lime Stone which often lends itself to a more random rubble style but we also offer semi coursed and fully coursed stonework if appropriate.
Lime Mortar Stone Walling
As well as the use of cement we offer lime mortar work. There is a variety of mortars and mixing methods which can be used to suit the needs of the stonework. Lime is often used in restoration to match the original stonework but also offers permeability and flexibility which is generally more appropriate for stone walls and historic buildings.
